The first appointment typically takes between 30 to 40 minutes for adults and between 20 to 30 minutes for children.
What happens during my first dental exam?
- Your dentist will begin by asking you some general questions about your lifestyle, your health conditions or any medications you’re taking. He or she will enquire if you’re experiencing any issues or pain in your teeth, mouth and jaws.
- Your dentist will do a visual examination of your teeth, gums and soft tissues to check for signs of decay, gum disease, malocclusion (analysis of your bite), and oral cancer. Your dentist will talk to you about the aesthetics of your smile. He or she may take dental x-rays and photographs of your teeth.
- After the exam, your dentist will discuss the assessment and give you an opportunity to discuss any question or concerns that you may have. Your dentist may recommend that you see our hygienist to get your clean done, and if the findings reveal any problems, he or she will discuss and draw up a treatment plan that will best address your needs and preferences
Is there anything else I need to know?
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment. We will ask you fill up a short Patient Medical History form to better understand your individual needs. If you have recent x-rays or dental records, please bring them with you.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask! This day is all about you and no matter what your current oral state is, we are here to make sure you get the smile you will love. No judgment, that’s our promise!
